Aldi to open first New Hampshire store

RBR Staff Writer Published 20 February 2012

The US chapter of German discount supermarket chain Aldi is set to open its first store at 541 South Broadway in Salem, New Hampshire on 1 March 2012.

Aldi stores tend to have about 10,000ft² of space, which is relatively less than a 138,000ft² Wegmans that opened several months ago in Northborough, reported boston.com.

The Illinois-based discount chain claims that its store brands can save customers 50% or more on many commonly purchased grocery items.

According to a company spokeswoman, Aldi stores generally have four to five uncluttered eight-foot-wide aisles versus 30 or more at some other grocers.

The chain operates over 1,200 stores in 32 states of the US, including six in Massachusetts. Its parent firm Aldi Group runs more than 9,500 stores worldwide.
