Discount retailer 99p Stores to debut in Scotland, plans 20 outlets by 2016

RBR Staff Writer Published 12 July 2013

99p Stores, a discount retailer based in the UK, is set to enter Scotland with plans to open 20 outlets across the northern region of the country over the next three years.

The first store under the plan is slated to be opened on 16 July 2013 at Ayr Shopping Centre on Kyle Street. The store is expected to create 30 jobs for the locals.

99p Stores will launch another six outlets in the country over the next 12 months.

The proposed 20 stores are expected to create a total of 500 new jobs in Scotland.

99p Stores commercial director Hussein Lalani told Business Insider that the company is excited with the new challenge as Scottish shoppers are said to be value-savvy.

"The buying public is no longer prepared to pay a penny over the odds whatever their disposable income," added Lalani.

"The days of the public paying three times over the odds for everyday basics like branded toothpaste, coffee and washing-up liquid are a thing of the past."

99p Stores currently operates 227 stores across the UK and Ireland.
